Seward, Alaska

Seward, Alaska

Seward resembles a port city and an alpine resort town. Imagine a sparkling blue body of water, Resurrection Bay, with towering mountains lining its shores. Mt. Marathon, where the world famous 4th of July race is held, lies in front of the Harding Icefield which extends down the coast. Flowing from the Harding Icefield are many glaciers, eight of which are tidewater glaciers, calving icebergs into the sea. Exit Glacier, on the north end of the icefield, is accessible by automobile.

Marine life abounds; eagles and seabirds fill the air, mountain goats, bear and moose all inhabit the forest around Seward. The Seward Highway stretching from Anchorage to Seward is designated by the U.S. Government as The Seward Scenic Byway.

Two big celebrations brighten the summer: The Mt. Marathon Race on the 4th of July and the Seward Silver Salmon Derby the second Saturday through the third Sunday in August.
